Polar bears are the coolest animals. I wanted to do a few things with this picture. I wanted to draw something photorealistic since I had never done that. I figured I'd try drawing fur since I had never done that. And I wanted to keep it all inside the replay limit as a fun challenge. Inspired by the polar bear that "Doggy" drew. |

Paper just seems like a historical technique to me. Too hard to recover when you mess up. But most of my drawing experience is on this DS, so I never even really gave paper a chance. I did it while looking at a photo I had found with a google search. I made the reference photo really small, like the size of a stamp and then drew the large scale features, then I made the reference photo bigger so I could refine the details. I tried to get enough detail that there were no obvious brush strokes in the end so it would look like a photo. Although I see why this is the highest rated picture, I don't think it's the best. I did it using a photo as reference, which means there was really no creativity involved. I think the real challenge is to make something creative, efficiently.
