Arrjay on 2009-12-28 15:36:13

Thanks. She was a challenge.

serio on 2009-12-28 17:02:11

sick copy.

Spotted Monkey Frog on 2009-12-28 17:10:47

That is amazing! Your attention to detail is so precise.

penableme on 2009-12-28 17:18:52

Great piece! Love it!

SPEC on 2009-12-28 17:20:15

Wow. Just wow. :D

Zeitwolf on 2009-12-28 22:42:55

nice copy

Renek Urrieta on 2009-12-29 01:03:23

Total awesome ^^, the copy is perfect :p

Arrjay on 2009-12-29 02:15:15

Munin, if you're still out there? I owe you a Roccoco. I have her 80% done but it's been a bit of a struggle. Hang in there bro. I didn't forget about you.

MickyDuff on 2009-12-29 02:47:13

The best piece of art ive seen in a long time.. excellent just excellent :o)*

Arrjay on 2009-12-29 03:47:31

Yo Mick, thanks. You have found a niche here and produced some real nice work yourself. Nice effects work!

Arrjay on 2009-12-29 05:59:17

C'mon peppermintpatrick...I know you like this one!

Inque on 2009-12-29 07:05:34

I just saw this movie last night. I've got to say it's a great movie but, it's not original. If you've seen Ferngully: The Last Rainforest, you've seen this movie. Check it out from the video store and you'll understand what I mean. @Arrjay: Your art is the freakin' bomb! I want to get this level of realism with this program. I'm working on some art now that will be posted in maybe a week. I need practice. :)

kaleopix on 2009-12-29 07:32:37

Wow, you have a lot of time in your hand at the time are you?

auns555 on 2009-12-29 07:41:49

Very Beautiful.

Chingy_bta on 2009-12-29 12:32:25

OMG OMG OMG!!!!

Kub on 2009-12-29 17:16:11

she looks a lot like Jessica Alba, amazing :O

boombox on 2009-12-29 17:18:56

OMG! this is ridiculous!! the tone, the likeness, wow...excellent job! ^_^

EvAnWuzhere on 2009-12-29 17:27:21

:O there hasnt been a painting that has been this good in a really long time

Inque on 2009-12-29 19:36:12

@Kub: She's voiced by Zoe Saldana of Star Trek fame. She stars as "Uhura." In my opinion Neytiri favors her. (The most recent Star Trek movie and its seguel coming out in 2011.)

Mathes on 2009-12-30 11:36:42

Great!!!!

alan pina on 2009-12-30 18:27:06

Great!!!

Kub on 2009-12-30 19:51:53

@Inque: haven't seen avatar yet, but lips of this girl makes that effect of alba :p

Lamgelus on 2009-12-30 20:32:04

avatar the movie of the decade? but do not know if the picture of the day, seriously congratulations you won a star

Inque on 2009-12-31 04:28:13

@Kub: I think you should see this movie right away. It's a great film with some really cool character designs and layouts. And yeah. On second thought, I do agree she does kinda look like Jessica Alba.

Arrjay on 2009-12-31 04:58:58

You guys, you need to see this movie in 3D IMAX. Way better than reg screen. Definitely worth the extra few bucks.

Akira on 2009-12-31 10:15:13

Amazing work!!!!!!!

Duffy on 2009-12-31 16:42:05

Wow great!!!!!

Krispod on 2010-01-01 14:55:05

YOUR SICK! U NEED HELP! :D

Daniel on 2010-01-02 08:41:06

Arrjay I love your work. Your skill with this program is off the charts. If you don't mind could tell me how you work with Colors, just some tips like how do you prepare your self for each drawing. Just share anything that you think to be helpful.

Zeitwolf on 2010-01-02 16:41:51

I keep wondering why copying a screenshot/photograph/painting is such a great thing to marvel at...

madanchi on 2010-01-02 17:18:05

@Zeitwolf: I guess its the skill of repainting it with high quality to look extremely alike, its hard to repaint something to look exactly as it is

Arrjay on 2010-01-02 17:42:35

Daniel, I break it down into 4 steps. 1-line drawing. This has to be solid and is the framework for what follows. 2-Value structure. If the values don't work, the colors won't work. 3-Color. All I do is replace the value with color making sure I don't throw the value off. This important and what could turn it mushy. 4-Details. If the cake is baked right then I add the icing. And the little white hi-lites I like to call "Pigeon Sh*t" And Daniel, of course once to learn the rules, you are allowed to break the rules so I do paint like the aforementioned 99% of the time. It's an old masters technique. Maxfield Parrish did as well. Black and white first and then color. When I paint a high key subject I tend to block the value stage in with color. This is much trickier, so be careful.I find I can be the colors cleaner. Don't be discouraged. I have been an artist for 25 years so I know a few tricks. Copying other artists work is a great way to step inside their heads. I hope this helps. That will be $500.00 please.

Arrjay on 2010-01-02 17:47:37

I meant, I can keep the colors. I should proof read this stuff. Sorry.

Arrjay on 2010-01-02 17:50:42

O.K. I'm retarded. I meant... I can keep the colors cleaner. Krispod is right!

Zeitwolf on 2010-01-02 20:20:21

@madanchi: it's basically a lot of patience as you can see by the pictures of Arrjay, alan pina and consorts or even that one robin pic of mine. It doesn't require creativity or even knowledge of lighting, colour or shape... just my two cents

dren1 on 2010-01-02 23:55:26

@Zeitwolf: Sour Grapes! if it is so easy, why don't your paintings look as nice? Arrjay: Nice job! obviously you do understand light and value.

Zeitwolf on 2010-01-03 00:55:57

@dren1: Following my theses: obviously because of my lack of patience (and maybe experience in copying stuff... Arrjay works as an artist for 25 years. in the film industry, is that correct, Arrjay?) ;-P

Zeitwolf on 2010-01-03 00:56:41

@dren1: ah, I forgot to thank you for telling me that my pictures aren't nice, thanks!

Arrjay on 2010-01-03 02:14:14

dren1, Thanks for kudos. I've preached it for years. Lighting is everything!

dren1 on 2010-01-03 21:27:51

@Zeitwolf : I didn't say your paintings arent nice. I looked through your profile. They are nice. They would be better if you understood the nature of light as well as Arrjay does. Please don't take that as a slam. Your 3 previous comments about this painting seemed to be backhanded compliments that were aimed at be-little or mimumize Arrjay's outstanding work. I'm sure he wasn't hurt by your comments, I don't know why it bothered me. I should have limited my comments to positve thoughts. I vow to use more self control in the future. I second Arrjay's montra: Light is everything!

Zeitwolf on 2010-01-03 22:18:10

Just to make myself clear, I wasn't aiming at anyone's feelings or believs. I simply have got a problem that copies often tend to get more attention and awe than the artist's original work (if they even have original art). Many drawers seem not to have a problem with it. I do. I copy, too. Of course. As Arrjay statet, you can learn a lot by copying. But I want credit for my original ideas rather than for the copied stuff... Arrjay's image is a high-level copy of http://www.imdb.com/media/rm1265536512/tt0499549, particularly on the DS. But I find it ridiculous to salute to lighting effects, which are there in the image. I rather admire his ability to see these colours and values. It needs a lot of practice I think.

Spotted Monkey Frog on 2010-01-03 22:38:55

Thanks for the link! It's down right spooky looking at the two images side by side. I know I couldn't come close to making something as detailed as this image.

infinityone on 2010-01-03 23:00:46

Amazing picture, but a crappy move with nice visuals.

Arrjay on 2010-01-04 02:45:42

dren1, Make that 4 backhanded compliments.

dren1 on 2010-01-04 03:46:51

Personally, I guess I respect the skill it takes to make a great "copy" more than the genius it takes to do original "crap". My two cents.

Arrjay on 2010-01-04 04:20:54

It's the ultimate compliment!

RATCUB on 2010-01-04 05:33:53

why is zeitwolf talking so much sh!t? This is marvelous. Copy or not he couldnt do this. He put up his attempt at an avatar painting and it sucked ass. Shut up and respect the work of someone who knows what their doing.

RATCUB on 2010-01-04 05:38:01

BTW. "copying" is what helps us mature as artists and as adults. Picasso didnt just decide one day to be one of the greatest artists that ever lived. He worked for it.

Zeitwolf on 2010-01-04 14:13:50

Actually I do respect this painting. I gave it a star and regarded Arrjay's hard work on it.

alan pina on 2010-01-04 18:45:04

Hey... my copies are now in the MOBILART aplication for iphone and ipod !!! :)

Zeitwolf on 2010-01-04 18:46:44

congratulations, alan pina! :)

Inque on 2010-01-04 23:09:15

To everyone who's posted a comment about Zeitwolf's commments: She's entitled to her own opinions as well we are. All I ask is may we keep from swearing at each other? We don't know one another personally. Even if did it would not be right to use that kind of language in the first place. We're not here to slam one another but, to admire and learn from each other. I understand what Zeitwolf was saying when she said, "Zeitwolf on 2010-01-02 16:41:51 I keep wondering why copying a screenshot/photograph/painting is such a great thing to marvel at..." Being influenced by American comics, European comics, manga, and anime I too, believe that creating things from the imagination is a pretty high standard to attain but, I also know every artist must copy someone else's work to get better. (Not a back handed comment.) I fully intend on copying not the subject matter that Arrjay paints but, the how & the why of the step by step process of the paintings he creates. Believe it or not this instruction is better than the Gnomon Workshop DVDs. :)

RATCUB on 2010-01-05 12:02:14

the difference is you draw anime so your opinion isnt relevant. thank you for the laugh tho.

Arrjay on 2010-01-05 17:06:57

Welcome to Aarjay's complaint forum. "Less debate, more create". I say. I also say,"Less talk, more chalk". or how about"Less whine, more line".

Zeitwolf on 2010-01-05 17:21:50

@RATCUB: you do not draw at all, so let's pretend you never attended the discussion. @Arrjay: I second that.

alan pina on 2010-01-05 19:22:25

Dont forget that this is a forum to show drawings made by an aplication for a Nintendo DS or an ipod or an iphone!!!... its just another game!!!... nobody want to be an "artist" or to be famous in here... am i right? its not a forum for "artist" is a forum for people who have 3 dollars to pay an aplication... people can draw the way they want... if they want to copy its ok and if they want to create its ok too... the only thing in here is to have funn!!!

Arrjay on 2010-01-05 20:23:35

Right on AP! And I do have fun reading all the bickering also.

Daniel on 2010-01-08 06:00:09

@ Arrjay Thank you for sharing your technique. The hardest thing I have trouble with when it comes to colors is scaling. Whenever I try to recreate someone elses work I always seem to make some part to big, or to small. Do you have any techniques for this?

Arrjay on 2010-01-08 22:51:11

Lots of life drawing classes will help you see the relationships better. One thing I force myself to do is to look at relationships outside of the subject. Don't say, this hand or foot or eye. Say, this curve, this angle, this distance. There is a great book called "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" which explains this in depth. Daniel, you have 5000 bad drawings in you. The more you draw, the sooner you will get rid of them. We all have to put in a lot of pencil mileage to get good.

Arrjay on 2010-01-08 22:51:50

Oh yeah, carry a sketch book!

Inque on 2010-01-09 03:22:14

@Arrjay: Does a digital one count? I've not used paper to draw on in quite sometime. I miss it really. @Ratcub: I draw more than anime. Some of my upcoming art will show that. Anime is one of my faves to draw; has been ever since I started drawing it. Check out my gallery. It's got more than anime or manga characters. I've got an M&M in there somewhere and a few portraits. @Arrjay again: I know what you mean I'm just trying to find the humor in this. You know? When you and I were growing up who would have thought we'd be drawing and painting on a hand held game system, a personal wearable phone, and a personal wearable record collection all while riding the a bus, train, plane or, an automobile. (Not driving it.) lol. Now, if Jens and the rest of R&D crew would hack one of those eBook reader thingies that would be some kinda cool. It already has a multi-touch sensitive screen. Imagine the possibilities. Hopefully, someone will come up with a Photoshop/Painter hybrid to use on one of them with some really cool features and that would be mostly what I want for next Christmas.

Inque on 2010-01-09 03:27:34

@Arrjay: I will take your advice and start drawing in an actual real drawing pad. I miss the tactile sensation of drawing with pencil on paper. Drawing on the fly while sitting in a crowded place observing people as they busy themselves during their day to day lives is quite fun.

PeppermintPatrick on 2010-01-09 21:45:30

CONGRATULATIONS ARRJAY! You are now on the first page of 'top paintings' and now far from the top! I am sure I speak for everyone when I say 'KEEP EM COMIN!'

Arrjay on 2010-01-09 22:14:03

PP, nice to see you are still out there. I miss those nice pieces you were posting a while back. I hope to see more from you. soon! Inque, I think any medium is fine, as long as you are drawing, but it's always nice to draw a bit lager (sketchbook) without zooming in, and my hand really gets cramped from the way we have to hold the darn thing. It would be nice if they could design one for an artist that was a bit more ergo friendly.

Azuangel on 2010-01-10 06:40:18

wiii i like it!!! ^^ good work im just started and this really helps is awesome!!! ^^

Inque on 2010-01-10 20:11:18

@Arrjay: Check out this link. I think you'll enjoy reading it. http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-10385975-1.html This will definitely come in handy when you want to paint on the fly when you're away from your computer. Hopefully, it will make it's way to America soon. :)

boombox on 2010-01-11 00:00:44

@Inque: haha i was thinking about getting that to draw with, it looks a great 'canvas' size! thinking about it though, does colors work with DSi's?

Inque on 2010-01-11 01:21:23

@boombox: yes, it does. but, it doesn't have touch sensitivity. Everything is controlled by sliders or so I've read. There are some threads in the Forum about it. Where exactly I'm not sure. If you get one let me know how Colors! works on it. i'm curious to know exactly from a real world experience. Europe's getting it before the US.

Arrjay on 2010-01-11 04:01:24

Thanks Inque, I will check it out.

Inque on 2010-01-11 06:19:43

Arrjay, you're welcome.

Arrjay on 2010-01-12 01:53:33

Yes, that is the I was talking about. 4" inch screen, should be sweet! I hope it's more comfortable to hold.

Chingy_bta on 2010-01-12 20:35:02

hehh tnx!!

boombox on 2010-01-12 22:19:36

@Inque: ahhh good! shame about the sensitivity though :( i may or may not get it, i will deffinately be having a play of it when it's released in the shops to see how it is irl and let you know :D

Inque on 2010-01-13 11:10:44

@boombox: thx for agreeing to give me the info. what's 'irl'? (you know? this has got to be the longest comments area of any painting i've seen on this site thus far.)

boombox on 2010-01-13 17:59:53

@Inque: hehehe, yeah (sorry for the spam Arrjay!) irl= in real life :D
